Travertine is a popular type of stone flooring. Travertine typically holds a colour from the brown spectrum, from dark to milk chocolate.
Travertine floor cleaning
A beautiful, light coloured natural stone, travertine has been a popular building material for centuries. It’s often used for floors but unfortunately the porous nature of the rock and its pale colour can mean that it discolours or stains more quickly than other stone. Fortunately, it’s usually possible to restore travertine tiles or slabs to their original condition, so the natural veining can show through.
Why travertine floors need sealing
Travertine can be considered a delicate stone for two reasons. First, it is formed by the action of hot springs and typically has microscopic bubbles of air throughout the stone. This makes it porous, so spills and stains can be absorbed into the stone. Second, it’s a form of calcium carbonate (like limestone and marble). This type of stone reacts with acids, which means that acidic foods, like vinegar and lemon juice, and household cleaners can damage the stone or dull the finish.
Clean-a-Carpet will seal your travertine floor as part of our thorough cleaning and restoration process. By coating the floor with a non-porous sealant we not only stop dirt and stains from fixing to the stone, we also improve the effectiveness of the polish.
Eco-friendly, people-friendly cleaning
At Clean-a-Carpet we’ve cleaned and restored thousands of floors. In our 30 years in business we’ve tried and tested a wide range of products and found them unsatisfactory. Many cleaning products can in fact damage travertine floors and those that are effective often come with a strong smell and possibly health risks for those using the chemicals or living with the newly cleaned floor.
Having honed our expertise, we’ve carefully selected our range of environmentally friendly, low-odour cleaners and sealing agents that are free from chemicals that damage stone. We are proud to be able to offer an effective travertine floor cleaning service that is also low impact for your home, your family, our staff and the planet.
Free, no-obligation travertine floor survey
As part of our free, no-obligation quotation service, we offer a floor survey. From our base in Portsmouth, Hampshire, we travel to homes and businesses across southern England. Visiting in person lets us fully understand your needs and provide an accurate quote, a clear timeline and a realistic understanding of what restoration will do to your floor. It also lets us answer any questions you might have about your floor, and identify the stone used if required. Travertine floors are often found in period buildings which may have their own requirements, which we can discuss during the survey.
